Gloria Yau, Elks Club | Project Lemon Tree | Kalihi WaenaKalihi Waena Elementary broke ground today on the longest pergola that Project Lemon Tree has seen yet! Principal Daniel Larkin and Vice Principal Debra Heyer welcomed Elks Club sponsors Gloria Yau and Uli Cutter as well as the Mason’s Union. The pergola is planning to be 150 feet long (about 7 car lengths), with a 6′ wide concrete sidewalk running the length, 7′ clear to the under structure and 3′ overhangs outboard on both sides of the sidewalk.

The structure will host 32 citrus trees and curriculum provided by Bizgenics and funded by Kamehameha Schools. Among the 32 trees, Meyer Lemon will lead the way. Other citrus will include Lisbon Lemon (a rind lemon for zest and garnishes), calamanse, yuzu, tangelo, oranges, tangerines, limes, kumquats, and jabon.
